New year, new stories - Puerta America Hotel Madrid (Part 3)

... With the main idea of using colourful blocks, Richard Gluckman, an architect from New York used glass materials, fiber glass panels, and carpet with simple interior cube shapes in industrial spaces at the hallway and lobby, with colour accents in the 9th floor bedroom. Everything is presented very simply, but it is a floor that I really like.

Arata Isozaki & Associates brought guests into a Japanese cultural space on the 10th floor. With black tones dominating the floor, walls, and wooden furniture, the red accent of the minibar is both a traditional inheritance and a creative touch from this Japanese architect. I especially like the use of checkered wooden walls as light-blocking curtains in the bedrooms. When the light shines through these walls, the room becomes mystical but does not lose its warmth. The bedroom bathtub is also a familiar image from traditional Japanese baths, made of hinoki wood material, serving as both a standing and lying bathtub. Surely, guests will be thrilled to stay in these rooms.

The 11th floor is a colourful space with clever arrangement of artworks by graphic designers Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas from Spain. The solution for a multi-functional space, not just a simple bedroom, without the need for ostentatious arrangement or complex technology, is the main idea throughout the design of this floor.

Pritzker Prize winner in 2008, Jean Nouvel, designed the interior of the Suite rooms on the 12th floor. He created each bedroom as a mystical world, using works by two photographers Alain Fleischer and Nobuyoshi Araki with images of geishas. Guests will be lost in wonderful spaces with images appearing on the ceiling, walls, and under the bed on two tones of white and black. The movable walls allow users to create their own space, which is a very special feature of this floor, where there is also a Presidential Suite with a panoramic view of the city of Madrid.

Atelier Jean Nouvel also designed the hotel's facade with his characteristic use of colours. We also cannot forget the landscape design by Harriet Bourne and Jonathan Bell from B+B UK with trees representing seasonal changes that highlight the beauty of the hotel. Finally, I also got to see the sculpture work by Oscar Neimeyer, an architect that I admire very much - who won the Pritzker Prize in 1988, located in the park in front of this hotel. If you have the chance to stay here, you should not miss it.
